I used to find Rob Shepherd quite amusing.
Wesr Ham through & through and not adverse to the odd bit of fisticuffs.

Does Andrew Jennings count? Great investigating reporter who brought down Blatter and his corrupt bedfellows.

spent the day after the last boleyn game devouring every bit of media on the day i could. ended up listening to the five live commentary in full and i know jonathan pearce can be a bit of a histrionic windbag better suited for robot wars, but he didn't half do us justice, as you'd hope for given his connection to the great man himself.

Cheers, TM. Was unaware that existed, will deffo give it a listen later. Dunphy may be a professional cunt, but he can be good value.

Who.is the Northern Irish guy on radio 5 that supports Liverpool, his name escapes me but he gets on my honkers...and not in a good way.

Agree on Tony Gale, Joe Cole, Jimmy Armfiled was the bollocks, but the two best on TV by miles were Liam Brady and Johnny Giles (as mentioned below also), brilliant insight and no shite. Patrick Barclay used to write some good stuff back in the day.

The worst ? Got to be Brian fucking Glanvile. Tedious old fucker.

Mcllvanney another superb journalist, loved reading him in the Sunday Times!

Re: Your favourite football columnist / broadcaster
I enjoy Tony Gale's co-commentary on West Ham games. It always seems that when we play the top teams the commentary involves an ex pro 'for' the top teams and then when we play an unfancied team (Burnley, sheff utd) they have an honest hardworking ex Pro who would always favour the plucky underdog

Re: Your favourite football columnist / broadcaster
I always liked Hugh McIlvanney. He was a lot more honest than the tossers around these days. Especially the rash of ex Tottenham players who seem over sympathetic to Levy and who are always encouraging our better players to move on.

Think Gabbidon's underrated.

Seems to have been sidelined into commenting on Welsh football.

Armfield was also a superb right back for England and mznaged Leeds to a European Cup final where they were robbed in a 2 nil defeat to Bayern!

He was great.
Remember him assessing a young Harry Kane...
"It is difficult. Most of the time time he looks like no sort of footballer at all but, my golly, this kid can score goals."

Pat Nevin

Knowledgable, witty in a dry way and never one-eyed even when commentating on Chelsea.
It helps that he has a hinterland (music and art) that means far more to him than football ever did.

Bilic was also good during the World Cup.

Jimmy Armfield.

Now it's just virtue signalling ex pros and lesbians who say nothing of interest.
